Janine Wilson’s Story
There are two figures in Janine Wilson’s portrait of her grandmother. At the top corner is an older woman in blue pastel. “This is how I remember my grandma. She had Alzheimers Disease for most of my life, so I didn’t know what her real personality was like. She died a few years ago.” The figure in the bottom of the page shows a smiling younger woman. “This is the way I want to picture my grandma,” said Janine, 15, a Junior at Dos Pueblos High School. “ My aunt told me stories about my grandma while we were looking through her photos. My grandma was a Special Education teacher who figured out how to teach her Junior High Students to read. I wish I’d known her then.” Janine created her unusual portrait in Diana Hensley’s Advanced Placement art class.
