2011 Online Ceramics Show Awards

The 2011 Tri-Cities Online Ceramics Show, hosted by the Student Art Fund of the Santa Barbara Art Association, is honored to present ribbons of Outstanding Artistic Merit to the following artists. The guest juror for this show was Geoff Flash, a ceramics teacher at Kinnelon High School in Kinnelon, New Jersey.

Artist Statement: “This is the first full-sized slab vase in which I utilized the newspaper-print aesthetic. This vase is thick, but tapers slightly thinner near the top. Around the top is a slab of a veiny or earthy-looking clay, colored in a brick red. The pulled handle is gold, with two small silver ‘screws’ affixing it to the vase. Underneath the handle, there is a power outlet. I had a lot of fun with this piece. I combined a classical gold pulled handle on a slab vase with pop images such as screws, newspaper, and a power outlet.”
