Artist Statement: Moving in Depths, I sculpted this octopus using cone 5 clay modeling it as an observational sculpture from pictures of a local species. I glazed it with cone 5 glaze and then mounted it on a burlap covered board with paper clay overlay. I stamped the paper clay with images of shells and left it unfired, without color, to look like the sand or sea shelf.

Artist Statement: Silkscreened Flowers, Our assignment was to create an image in black and white that could be silkscreened onto a plate. First I made the silkscreen using “Easy Screen”–it only takes 1 minute in the sun then washing for 15. Next, I threw this plate on the potter’s wheel using cone 5 white clay. The next day I trimmed my plate and had it bisque fired. Next, I chose 3 different blue 06 Mayco Stroke and Coat colors I thought made a good pallet.  Then I placed my silkscreen flower image on the plate and brushed the glaze through it, then repositioned the silkscreen, overlapping the images. I painted the edge and bottom of plate with a solid blue color as a contrast to the top flower pattern. When all was dry, I fired it in the kiln again. Last firing I covered entire plate with Clear glaze so the white empty spaces on plate would be shiny too.
